Legacy projects: How to create a lasting impact for the public?

The possibilities for leaving a visible impact in Vienna are very diverse and individual for congresses. Two major congresses, the ERA Kidney Congress and the ESA Living Planet Symposium, realized exciting projects for the public at the Austria Center Vienna.
Focus on kidney health
As part of the ERA congress, local nephrologists held workshops at three Viennese schools to explain interesting facts about kidney function and health to pupils. In addition to this ‘Kidney Schlool Project’, the local population was able to have their kidney health tested free of charge on two days in front of the entrance to the Austria Center Vienna. The kidney screening was offered in a mobile screening truck and was widely accepted.

Space research for schools
The European Space Agency’s Living Planet Symposium offered a wide range of school activities over several days in Hall X4. For this legacy project as part of the congress, the Austria Center Vienna made Hall X4 – and therefore 2,650 m2 of event space – available rent-free. Over 2,200 schoolchildren took part in the free workshops, the programme on the Education Stage, the guided tours of the symposium and the Science Fair.

Science communication
A special legacy contribution from the Austria Center Vienna is also the free science communication service. It makes a significant contribution to communicating the key content of congresses to the general public.
