Accessibility statement

Accessibility statement

Internationales Amtssitz- und Konferenzzentrum Wien, Aktiengesellschaft (IAKW-AG) endeavours to make its website www.acv.at accessible in compliance with the Austrian Web-Zugänglichkeits-Gesetz (Web Accessibility Act), Federal Gazette I No. 59/2019, as amended. IAKW-AG follows version 2.2 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

This accessibility statement applies to the website www.acv.at

Status of compliance with requirements

IAKW-AG complies with WCAG 2.2 to the fullest extent possible. However, due to the non-conformances and exemptions listed below, the website www.acv.at is only partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA and the applicable European Standard EN 301 549 V3.2.1 (2021-03), as per Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and European Council.

IAKW-AG is aware that further improvements are needed to enhance the accessibility of the existing webpages and content available at www.acv.at. We are actively working to ensure that the webpages and content at www.acv.at are (as far as possible) fully accessible without restrictions. In the future, the new content that we create for our webpages will be designed in such a way that it is usable by all people.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not accessible due to the following reasons:

a. Non-compliance with accessibility requirements

Contrast and use of colour

Some text components and controls in various states on the website do not yet meet contrast requirements (success criterion SC 1.4.1 Use of Color, SC 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum, SC 1.4.11 Non-Text Contrast) and may pose challenges for users with visual impairments. We are currently working to address these limitations. Many, mainly older PDF and MS Office documents do not meet accessibility standards.

Icons and images

Icons and images in general

Decorative icons cannot currently be ignored by assistive technologies (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content) and, in some cases, images lack alternative text. Linked icons and images sometimes provide alternative text that, in conjunction with the associated link text, does not clearly convey the link’s purpose (SC 2.4.4 Link Purpose) or hinders navigation via voice commands (SC 2.5.3 Label in Name).

We are currently working to address these limitations.

Inclusion of images in the English translation

Images on the English subpages currently only have alternative text provided in German(S C 3.1.2 Language of Parts): this affects the “Vienna City Card”, “Relaxed Cycling”, “Barrier-Free Access”, and “Travelling by Car” sections on subpage “Arriving” and others. The content management system does not allow for multilingual alternative text for the same asset.

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Navigation

Main navigation

The main site navigation is not fully accessible. In particular, when text is enlarged to approximately 150%, parts of the main navigation are cut off, making them invisible and inoperable (SC 1.4.4 Resize Text).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Language switcher

The accessible name of the language switcher does not match its label (SC 2.5.3 Label in Name).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Section navigation (skip links)

The section navigation is not fully accessible. In particular, the focus is not visible when focus is on an element of the components (SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible), and the focus does not move to the appropriate focusable element after a menu item is activated (SC 2.4.3 Focus Order). Additionally, the footer and chatbot dialogue, which appear in the same form across all pages, are not currently included in skip links (SC 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Footer navigation

Links to social media profiles in the footer navigation do not meet the required target size for unrestricted operation (SC 2.5.8 Target Size).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Breadcrumb navigation

The breadcrumb navigation is not always displayed in the same position relative to other elements, depending on the template (SC 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation). Additionally, the heading tag lacks a value to describe the component’s purpose (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships, SC 2.4.6 Headings and Labels, SC 2.4.2 Name, Role, Value).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Search and search results

The search dialogue and search results are not fully accessible. In particular, issues have been identified with missing heading markup (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships), focus management (SC 2.4.3 Focus Order) and compatibility with assistive technologies (SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Room finder

Filter

The filter component of the “Room finder” feature is not fully accessible. In particular, the grouping of filter buttons, semantic structure (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships), button labelling (SC 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions, SC 2.5.3 Label in Name) and focus visibility (SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible) need improvement.

Additionally, the status after applying a filter is not communicated to assistive technologies (SC 4.1.3 Status Messages).

We are currently working to address these limitations.

List of rooms

The list of rooms does not clearly separate the content of individual room entries (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships).

We are currently working to address these limitations.

Hotel map

“Hotels within walking distance” graphic

The “Hotels within walking distance” graphic conveys text information as an image, cannot be adjusted by users and lacks machine-readable text alternatives (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content, SC 1.4.5 Images of Text).

We are working to provide an equivalent text alternative.

Tab lists

Content presented in tab lists is not fully accessible. In particular, issues have been identified with link purpose (SC 2.4.4 Link Purpose), auto-playing background videos (SC 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide), focus management (SC 2.4.3 Focus Order, SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible) and display at screen resolutions below 390px (SC 1.4.10 Reflow).

We are currently working to address these limitations.

Carousel components

Some carousel components are not fully accessible. In particular, issues have been identified with structure (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships), keyboard operability (SC 2.1.1 Keyboard), perceivability and operability at low screen resolutions (320px) (SC 1.4.10 Reflow), focus visibility (SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible) and compatibility with assistive technologies.

We are currently working to address these limitations.

Gallery

Gallery components are not fully accessible. In particular, issues have been identified with link purpose (SC 2.4.4 Link Purpose), focus management (SC 2.4.3 Focus Order, SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible) and accessible names.

We are currently working to address these limitations.

News

News overview page filter

The filter on the news overview page does not provide a status for assistive technologies.

We are currently working to address this limitation.

News detail page

News detail pages are not fully accessible. In particular, issues include missing alternative text for images in body text (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content), missing accessible name for the play button on videos (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content, SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value), empty tags in running text (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships) and display errors at 320px resolution (SC 1.4.10 Reflow).

We are currently working to address these limitations.

Podigee widget for podcasts

To enable podcast playback directly on the website, we use a widget from Podigee. This widget is not fully accessible.

In particular, issues include missing text alternatives for the cover image (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content), insufficient contrast for some controls in various states (SC 1.4.1 Use of Color), labels not meeting contrast requirements (SC 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum), invisible focus on the play/pause button, linked icons being too small (SC 2.5.8 Target Size) and lack of an accessible name for the widget (SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value).

The widget will be replaced with links to individual episodes on supported podcast platforms in the future.

Videos in page header

The markup for the pause/play button is currently displayed even when no video is present, suggesting a functional relationship that does not exist due to missing content (SC 1.3.1 Info and Relationships).

We are currently working to address this issue.

The focus on the pause/play button is not visible (SC 2.4.7 Focus Visible).

We are currently working to address this issue.

Videos in other content sections

In content sections, some background videos without sound start automatically and cannot be paused or stopped (SC 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

Some videos in content sections can be opened in overlays, but the purpose of the control element is not always clear (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content, SC 2.4.4 Link Purpose).

We are currently working to address this limitation.

PDF documents

PDF documents available for download on the website are not yet accessible. We are working to make PDF content on the website accessible.

If you need assistance with non-accessible PDF documents, please contact [email protected].

We will do our best to provide the content in a suitable format.

b. Disproportionate burden

Interactive level map

In addition to level pages and room pages, an SVG-based interactive level map is available but it is not accessible. Issues include missing text alternatives and purpose-describing labels for interactive elements (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content, SC 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions, SC 2.4.4 Link Purpose, SC 2.5.3 Label in Name), non-compliance with the requirements  for contrast (SC 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum, SC 1.4.1 Use of Color, SC 1.4.11 Non-Text Contrast) and keyboard operability (SC 2.1.1 Keyboard).

Because all of the relevant information from the interactive level map is available in an accessible format on the corresponding level page or room page, we will not make the interactive level map accessible due to financial reasons, as we believe this would constitute a disproportionate burden and does not result in a material information disadvantage compared to the accessible information provided.

360-degree tour

The website includes an embedded third-party 360-degree tour that is not accessible and fails to meet any of the applicable criteria.

As all relevant information available in the 360-degree tour – apart from its visual impression – is provided elsewhere in an accessible format on the corresponding pages for the level or room in question, we will not make the supplementary 360-degree tour accessible due to financial reasons. We believe this would constitute a disproportionate burden and does not result in a material information disadvantage compared to the accessible information provided.

Podcasts

The episodes of the podcast lack complete text alternatives (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content, SC 1 .2.1 Audio-Only and Video-Only) and are therefore not accessible. As the last podcast episode was published in December 2023 and the series will not continue, we do not plan to provide comprehensive text alternatives.

We believe this would constitute a disproportionate burden under accessibility regulations due to financial and organisational reasons.

Videos

Videos in general

In addition to the points under section a), the following applies:

Not all audio and video content on the website is fully accessible.

In particular, not all videos have media alternatives such as captions (SC 1.2.2 Captions), text alternatives (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content) or comprehensive audio descriptions (SC 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative [Prerecorded]). Videos used on the website may trigger epileptic seizures due to strong contrast changes and rapid cuts (SC 2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold).

Due to financial and organisational reasons, it is not yet possible to fully provide these alternatives, but we are working to provide them where feasible.

polySTAGE

The landing page for the polySTAGE  at https://www.acv.at/en/polystage/ is not accessible. The animations illustrating screen setups and the buttons for switching between screen arrangements lack alternative text and accessible names (SC 1.1.1 Non-Text Content, SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value) and are not keyboard operable (SC 2.1.1 Keyboard). The text above the animations does not meet contrast requirements (SC 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum). The same limitations for videos apply as outlined in the “Videos” section above.

Additionally, the status of the selected screen arrangement is not communicated to assistive technologies (SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value, SC 4.1.3 Status Messages).

The polySTAGE landing page will be completely reworked in the coming months.

For this reason, we believe adapting it for accessibility would not be economical and constitutes a disproportionate burden.

c. Third-party content not developed, funded, or controlled by us

Booking.com widget

The Bo oking.com widget used on the “Visit” page is not fully accessible. In particular, the search form has limitations with text resizing starting at approximately 170% (SC 1.4.4 Resize Text) as well as with compatibility with assistive technologies (SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value).

The Austria Center Vienna does not have full control over the accessible output of this service. As an alternative, information about hotels in the area is available in an accessible format below the widget.

Google Maps

Used in conjunction with the embedded B ooking.com widget, Google Maps has issues that make it difficult to use or unusable for people relying on assistive technologies.

The Austria Center Vienna has no control over the accessible output of this service. As an alternative, information about hotels in the area is available in an accessible format below the widget. A list of current accessibility limitations for Google Maps can be seen at https://issuetracker.google.com/hotlists/3783951.

We have no influence over the output of the widget in Google Maps.
