The Austria Center Vienna recently took gold at the W orldMediaFestival Award 2021 for the Best Website | MICE category.

“We are very proud that we are able to specifically target the differing needs of organisers, exhibitors and visitors through our online set-up. Especially during the pandemic, the website more than proved itself as the first port of call for people using Austria’s largest testing and vaccination facility. Between December 2020 and June 2021 alone, it racked up more than four million visits,” confirmed Susanne Baumann-Söllner, Managing Director of the Austria Center Vienna “To see our work now recognised in this way by the World Media Festival Award is highly gratifying for me personally and clearly shows that we are on the right track with our strategy and activities. Our marketing and communications team really has put in an outstanding performance here.”

New website – specifically tailored to the needs of the numerous different user groups

Especially in times like these, the Austria Center Vienna is redoubling its digitalisation drive across the board, and particularly when it comes to communications. To provide the best possible degree of support as they plan upcoming events, the new website gives organisers the opportunity to build up the clearest possible virtual overview of the destination, the location and range of services on offer at the venue. An interactive presentation of the various rooms and halls, levels and event concepts is the centrepiece of the new site. On top of that, the Austria Center Vienna is actively seeking to promote dialogue with various target audiences. From organisers and exhibitors to participants, the content is always tailored to the specific visitor’s needs. As part of this approach, a separate area was created for the health services offered by the City of Vienna at the Austria Center Vienna. From Covid-19 rapid testing and Covid-19 vaccinations to free PCR tests as part of the Alles gurgelt (Gargle with us) drive – everything is set out clearly for people who live and work in Vienna and who are looking to use the service. “The jury was particularly impressed with the way that we wanted to reach out to the different user groups individually and provide them with content that is tailored to their needs,” Baumann-Söllner noted.

Technical implementation with React and headless CMS

Vienna-based digital agency Functn was responsible for implementing the website. “For the programming, we opted for React and a headless CMS so that the technical deployment of the website would be every bit as contemporary and innovative as the offering at the Austria Center Vienna. The experiential outcome is a simple yet unique design – featuring a virtual tour, interactive room layout and storytelling with high-res images and videos. The focus on usability has struck a chord with the different user groups and has also proved its worth at the testing and vaccination lanes,” explained Philip Ehrenfellner, CEO and co-founder of Functn.
